Do You Really Need a Wrinkle Cream for Your Eyes?

With all the famous poetry that talks about the “eye being a window to the soul” and so forth, you might tend to think that the skin in your eye area requires a lot of special treatment. Is that a myth, or a reality? Well, it is true that the first place most people begin noticing wrinkles and other signs of growing older is around their eyes. It is also true that the skin there is thinner and more delicate than that on the rest of your face. So, do these facts mean that you need to treat that area differently? Read on to find the answer.

Those fine lines and little wrinkles that you first begin to notice around your eyes are usually given the unattractive name, “crow’s feet.” Several things, including genetics and aging, which we can do nothing about, cause them. Other factors that contribute to crow’s feet can be partially controlled, and they include sun damage, stress, and exposure to pollution, smoke and other environmental toxins.

As we age, we also start to see dark circles, bags, or puffiness appear beneath our eyes. Most of these symptoms can be explained by the fact that our skin looses collagen and elastin as the years go by. These are the properties in our skin that help it return to its original form after being moved by facial muscles and look smooth and supple. If you are young enough that you have not experienced many of these issues yet, take note. The very best way to avoid these unattractive problems is to prevent them from occurring in the first place. And the single most important thing you can do as a preventive is to keep your eye area moisturized with a product that contains sunscreen. Of course it makes sense to avoid smoking, eat nutritious meals, and get plenty of rest, too, but those things are good for your overall health.

If, on the other hand, your age has already begun to catch up with you and you have some conditions you would like to improve near your eyes, you will need to take a few more steps. Here are some things to think about when considering how to treat your eye area.

· Be sure to use your fourth finger whenever you apply any kind of makeup or cream near your eye. It is your weakest finger and will automatically ensure that you use a gentle touch on that delicate skin. Also, be careful never to pull in a downward motion. Patting lightly rather than rubbing is the best thing.

· Look for an eye cream that can address all your problems with one treatment. Some skin care lines would like you to purchase separate items for dark circles, puffiness, lines, and wrinkles. Besides the fact that using all of these could take you half of the morning, it gets very expensive.

· Be very careful if you have any allergies or skin conditions. Your eyes are more sensitive than most other parts of your bodies and you certainly don’t want to take any chances when it comes to irritation. Read the ingredient list carefully on any product you decide to try and steer clear of anything you know you have had trouble with in the past. Never put any wrinkle creams on your eyelid.

Use only a small amount of eye cream. Most companies recommend a dot about the size of a pea for each eye. If you apply too much, you will weigh down that delicate skin and could make things look worse.
